| WADO-RYU TOURNAMENT The U.S. Eastern Wado-Ryu Karate Championship was held April 12th. As it has been forty years since Wado-Ryu karate was officially introduced into Tennessee, Grand Master Jiro Otsuka and his son, Kazutaka, came from Tokyo to participate in the ceremonies. Don McElhiney in his first tournament as a black-belt, brought home second place in sparring after some hard hitting matches. Kela Bakari fought her way to a first place win in her first tournament ever. Kenneth Bakari and Alvin Roland, Jr. also fought and ran kata. Alvin got a dose of his own medicine, facing an opponent his size, almost. Congratulations to all and thank you for your excellent representation of Zanshin Dojo. |
| Update on Bluegrass Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Open Tournament- April 5th 2008 CONGRATULATIONS to the three amigos, Hank, Brian and Vicente for their work at the tournament. Three competitors, three medals (as it should be). Special commendations to Vicente who won gold in his division, and then had the cajones to compete in the absolute division as the lightest competitor in the bracket. He fought valiantly, winning his first match and having a great first day in his tournament career! I can see a lot of improvement in everyone's jiu-jitsu, much more mature and more confident all the time. |
